  • Is there kosher food available in Syracuse?

    • On campus, Shaw Dining Hall offers kosher options as part of Syracuse University's dining program. Additionally, Syracuse Hillel maintains a fully kosher kitchen at the Winnick Hillel Center, supervised by the Syracuse Va'ad Ha'ir, and provides Shabbat dinners most Friday evenings along with all major holiday meals.

    • Trader Joe's and Wegman's grocery stores both sell ample kosher groceries and are approximately 10 minutes from campus.

    • Students can also drive 1.5 hours to Rochester, NY to visit Lipman's Kosher Deli and Malek's Kosher Bakery!

  • Does Hillel deliver matzo ball soup or other food when I'm sick?

    • Hillel does not offer soup delivery. However, Shaw Dining Hall serves kosher matzo ball soup almost daily. Under Syracuse University's Campus Dining Sick Meal Policy, a student can give their ID card and a note to a friend, who can swipe the ill student's card and pick up a take-out meal on their behalf. Dining hall menus are posted weekly here.

    • Campus Dining also offers a Feel Better Food Pack, which delivers essential nutrition items to residence halls (submissions due by 4:30 PM EST for same-day delivery; charged to meal swipe or comparable cost). More info and the submission form are available here.

  • What accommodations are available for graduation weekend?

    • Some University dorm buildings open for parent/family housing during graduation weekend, but availability is limited and must be booked far in advance through the University. Syracuse Hillel does not provide references, suggestions, or connections to local Jewish families for lodging, due to liability considerations.

  • I have a concern, complaint, or bias-related incident — who do I contact?

    • For bias-related incidents, report through Syracuse University's Community Standards STOP Bias system here.

  • What Jewish resources and items does Hillel provide?

    • ​Syracuse Hillel offers a range of items and resources for Jewish student life at no additional cost to the student, including:

      • Yahrzeit candles

      • Mezuzah cases (with printed/non-kosher klafs available)

      • Menorahs

      • And many more items available to borrow!
